Smithfield Foods is a global food company that claims to provide good food in a responsible manner.The truth is they have a farm with the brand "Granjas de Carroll" in Perote, Veracruz, Mexico, where they are poisoning potable water, and the environment trowing dead pigs in holes without sanitary measures. They own different brands all over the world. The American subsidiary of this multinational company was expelled from North Carolina and Virginia in the United States for not fulfilling sanitary measures.   

In Mexico, there is a movement of environmentalists that have a struggle against this company Carroll  Farms. There are now around 20 towns that are part of this movement. 5 activists face charges.

The docket as of 10/2007 involves Margarita Hernández Burgos, Luis
Martínez Crisóstomo, María Verónica Hernández Arguello –high school teacher– and Bertha Crisóstomo Lara. All of them were accused of defamation against the company, and also because they conducted a march and blocked the Achichica-Perote highway, to make visible the protest of January 10,2007. 

The company throws the chemical remains and excrement from the pigs into the Parote lagune, and the smell it contaminates the whole valley. The settlers from the valley also suffer from water shortage because it is used up on the pig farm. This contamination has been the cause of a epidemic outbreak of pneumonia that was transported by the flies from the lagune towards the town.

This company Smithfield Foods claim to  "remain 100 percent
committed to environmental leadership, community involvement, employee
safety, animal welfare and high-quality food". Please don't consume their products, don't support the poison in other countries. The brands of this company are the following:
