I call this very special episode of The Meow Mix: Meow by Meow Meow! As everyone is coming back from Austin’s South by South West with hangovers but no record deals to speak of, follow me back in time to hear bands I rocked to at the three SXSW fests I’ve been to: 1997, 1998, and 2008.

For 2008, I place emphasis on the parties I went to at backyards, patios, living rooms, and sheds. These are the places where the spirit of SXSW lives on, even as the official festival has become a corporatized monstrosity.
